Our Services

THOS provides immediate shelter and housing support services to individuals and families in central Nova Scotia experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. 

Immediate Shelter

Haven House is the primary outreach program of THOS, and currently provides twenty emergency and transitional beds to unhoused individuals. Haven House is open to anyone sixteen years of age and older. You can access this service by checking in at Haven House, bed availability is on a first-come-first-serve basis for new intakes. You can call ahead to check availability but we cannot take reservations over the phone.

Guests are provided with meals, clothing, personal care items, transition and housing support services, as well as a phone number and mailing address where they can be contacted.

If you are younger than 16 years old and are experiencing homelessness, are at risk of losing your housing, or are unsafe in your current living situation, please call the
Kid’s Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 or text “CONNECT” to 686868.

Housing Support

The housing support service helps renters find and maintain safe, adequate housing. The level of support varies on a case-to-case basis but can include assistance with rental applications, sending paperwork to agencies, and interfacing with landlords.

Our Intensive Case Manager works with clients who may need additional assistance for a longer period of time.

If you are having an issue with your landlord, are at risk of eviction, or are currently searching for affordable housing, contact housing@trurohomeless.ca to set up a meeting.

Bagged Lunches

We provide a limited number of bagged lunches at the Haven House shelter door.  You do not need to be a guest of Haven House to access this service but please note that availability is dependent on our incoming donations. 

Clothing and
Personal Care Items

We have a second-hand clothing and a personal care item store room. If you require toiletries or an article of clothing, such as a winter coat or shoes, these items can be requested at the Haven House shelter door. These items are dependent on our donations as well.   

Advocacy and Education

THOS provides community education on best practices to end homelessness and works with local government and property owners to increase the availability of supportive and affordable housing.
