Let's work together to ensure housing stability is achievable for everyone in Colchester County!

Big news!: The Truro Homeless Outreach Society will now be known as the Truro Housing Outreach Society, or THOS, reflecting a change in how we talk about housing insecurity. Stay tuned to see these changes reflected in our website! πŸ€— πŸ€— πŸ€—

Welcome

Serving central Nova Scotia since 2014, the Truro Housing Outreach Society (THOS) is a registered nonprofit and charitable society that works to address housing insecurity in our community. Our facility, Hub House provides emergency and transitional beds, personal care supplies, food, housing support, eviction prevention, and advocacy to anyone over the age of sixteen. We apply, housing first, rapid re-housing, shelter diversion and harm reduction principles within our service delivery model, client case management and care plans. To date, THOS has served more than 650 individual clients. Unfortunately, due to the current housing crisis and heightened need due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we often operate at capacity.

Primary Services Offered

  • Operating a twelve hour, emergency/transitional housing facility at 862 Prince St. with plans of permanently operating with a twenty-four hour model at our new location, 29 Arthur St., by summer 2022.

  • Providing navigational, advocacy, outreach, and case management services.

  • Focusing on shelter diversion and eviction prevention measures, rapid rehousing and harm reduction strategies while applying housing first principles within client care and housing plans.

  • Facilitating a volunteer, peer support program and offering employment opportunities within our facility, with priority given to those with lived experience.

  • Delivering educational presentations to local government, community groups, rental property owners and other stakeholders, with the intention of eliminating the stigma our clients face.

  • Actively encouraging and coordinating better inter-agency collaboration and partnerships with those working towards the same goals, in effort to avoid service duplication and increase efficient and effective service delivery to mutual clients.
